Bollywood's popular couple - Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai - has been approached by animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) to create awareness about the plight of lovebirds through a special photo shoot."As India's most famous 'lovebirds', we believe that you are uniquely suited to help bring attention to the plight of these smart and sensitive birds. We would like to arrange a photo shoot with you for a 'Love Birds in Cages' ad to raise awareness about the issue, " Anuradha Sawhney, PETA India chief functionary, wrote in a letter to Abhishek and Aishwarya.Lovebirds are small members of the parrot family and the most commonly sold birds for domestic as well as display caging, which is a punishable offence under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1960.The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species restricts trading in foreign birds.However, a black market involving 300 of the India's estimated 1, 200 species of birds thrives openly in many places.

Rajni Sir gets the taste of Aishwarya Rai's hidden talent

Aishwarya Rai has many hidden talents. One is her ability to grasp languages quickly.This, the unit of Shankar's Robot discovered while shooting with Aishwarya. She was required to hold her own against the glib-talking super-talking Rajni Sir."And since Tamil isn't really familiar territory for Aishwarya everyone including Rajni Sir and director Shankar was ready for several re-takes as she got used to the dialogue."To everyone's surprise Aishwarya got a grip of the language in no time at all."And she was soon rattling off the dialogues and getting hang of the emotions with equal skill in both the Hindi and Tamil takes.So much so that Rajni Sir who has waited for decades to work with Aishwarya was taken aback."When asked about the above incident Aishwarya laughs, "Regional languages have never been a problem. I did a Bengali film Chokher Bali and I was able to get a hang of the complex intonations, though later they needed a particular sing-song tone and my voice had to be dubbed."But the buzz in Robot is that they are planning to retain her Tamil lines in the final print.Says the actress from Ooty, "I'm not at familiar with Tamil. My mother tongue Tulu is very different from Tamil. But you must remember my first film Iruvar was in Tamil and I had to say lengthy lines in that film. From my beginnings with Mani Ratnam in Tamil to this my second Tamil film of my career….it's been quite a journey."At the moment she's shooting in the freezing cold in Oooty for Mani Ratnam with Abhishek. "We shifted from the jungles of Kerala to Ooty by car so I couldn't accompany Abhishek. I've finish this schedule and go back to Shankar and Robot. Really gruelling." .

The entire international interest in me started when Devdas went to Cannes. Coincidentally, Gurinder (Chadha) was meeting me with two script ideas at the same time. So naturally she became my first choice. It was suddenly perceived that Aishwarya has made this decision to go to Hollywood.I said that I am open to cinema, just as I was when I did Iruvar, Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya and Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. When I joined films finally, it was after Miss World and films were already coming my way.I have virtually been invited here and to date scripts come my way and by the grace of God, I am spoilt for choice. That is the same way I choose my English films.I am sure people have wondered why I have said no to biggies like Will Smith, Michael Douglas, Rush Hour 3 or Troy. But, I had committed my time to Indian films."A day off is totally husband time and family time."When we were in Chennai shooting for Guru, we went with Abhishek's friends from college time, to the theatre and we watched movies back to back, just that one evening we went from one theatre to the next in this multiplex
Abhishek and I love music and I have an incredibly full iPod now thanks to him. I have never been pseudo enough to say I like only English music and popular tracks of the time but also old classics and Hindi music of earlier times.

We also genuinely love watching movies. But most of all, we just love spending time together. Both of us are very talkative and we have to give each other time to speak before piping in."Professionally what was wonderful was being bestowed with the Padma Shri."People from the fraternity said you are the youngest from the industry to have received it thus far. I owe it to my parents and I devote it to them. It was very special when my in-laws said we welcome the fifth Padma Shri into the family.And I am blessed with the best husband in the world because it reflects on his strength that he can stand by his woman on a public platform at every given opportunity and applaud her.With a tight film schedule ahead, the actor will face the year with the cylinders that drive her, on full blast. Jaya Bachchan hasn't seen Priyanka Chopra's work in Fashion but feels her daughter in law, Aishwarya Rai, deserved the best actress award for her performance in Jodhaa Akbar!After stirring a hornet's nest with her attempts at humor with an ill-advised dig at Raj Thackerey's MNS, Jaya Bachchan is now assaulting our sensibilities!The fair minded lady, who hasn't heard the term - conflict of interest – recently said:"For all I know she must be really good in Fashion. I have not seen it. But I've seen Priyanka's work in Dostana and liked it. She's undoubtedly a good actress," Jaya told."I don't have any objection to her winning the award at IIFA. But I wonder why Aishwarya's fine performance was ignored. A lot has been said and written about Ashutosh Gowariker’s outburst against Priyanka Chopra’s best actress award at the IIFA in Macau.While most sections of the industry have come forward to deride Ashu for what they see as his childish and impulsive outburst, the one aspect of his criticism against the IIFA jury awarding Priyanka and not Aishwarya Rai Bachchan the award that has raised the most eyebrows is his mention of Mrs Bachchan on stage to endorse and substantiate his public objection to Priyanka’s trophy.A young actor who was a prominent part of the IIFA says, “Jo bolna tha bola. Why drag poor Jayaji into it?”Surprisingly the ever-forthright first-lady of the industry not only stands up for Gowariker but also gives him a clean chit for mentioning her in his pro-Aishwarya speech.Reluctant to speak on the matter Jaya when persuaded finally opens up. “First of all it is being presumed that Ashutosh unnecessarily mentioned my name regarding Aishwarya’s omission from the awards.he fact is, I suggested he bring up the question on stage at IIFA.
